Juniors

Tennis
The success of tennis and the club lies in a vibrant junior section. The club has placed additional emphasis on this since court availability was increased.

There are currently 320 junior members of which 165 are under 10. 220 of these are in the Junior Coaching Programme with almost an even split of 100 juniors and 120 Mini Tennis.

There is a clearly defined programme, which guides juniors from their beginnings at the club in our accredited mini tennis programme to their progression to Club, County and National Futures levels.

In 2004 the Club achieved accreditation as a Club Performance Centre and now has an active performance programme that features:

• A Junior Development Programme working with local schools to expand the number of juniors playing tennis.
• Accreditation as a mini tennis centre.
• Sufficient coaching capacity to develop the mini, junior and adult coaching programme at the club.
• An appointed manager able to support the coaches and to liaise with the YLTA. The manager is also accountable to the Tennis Sub Committee of the Board of Directors.
• A Performance Coach who can take the juniors on to county, national and international level play and has in his previous role already produced such players.

Squash
Here at HLTSC we have a thriving junior section. Junior squash coaching happens throughout the week during term time (after school) and is for all standards from beginners to advanced. In addition, we run a Junior Club on Saturday mornings where youngsters can put those newly learned techniques into practice. Juniors are encouraged to try out squash by joining one of squads and can make a decision about membership after a trial period.

In addition to the club activities, HLTSC regularly hosts England Squash and Racketball sanctioned competitions. These attract 70+ juniors of all ages from around the country and is a great showcase for junior squash. Entries are open to anyone registered with England Squash and Racketball and unregistered juniors who play in Yorkshire. Come back here or visit ES&R website for the 2011/12 competition dates.
